The Clarke Tin Whistle: Deluxe Edition (Book & CD)

Clarke Tin Whistle Book
Since I play flute, piccolo and alto flute , this book was easy for me to use. I loved the tunes in it.If you don't know how to read music, I felt this book gave and easy explanation. The only thing I think the book should include is the temp for each piece. If you try to play with the cd you don't really know what the temp is and the person playing the whistle on the cd adds grace notes etc that are not notations on the songs. If you don't play music , the ornamentations might confuse a person.Note: The fingering charts in this book are for the key of D whistle only. If you use them for the key of C whistle you will be out of tune.

MUST HAVE for the beginning tin whistle player!
First of all ... I'm new to the tin whistle and learning. If that phrase seems familiar ... you've read my reviews of the Clarke Original D and Dixon Trad D Nickel tin whistles! =)That said, if you're starting out learning the tin whistle you must have this book. If "Earl Scruggs and the 5-String Banjo" is THE TEXT for learning banjo ... this is THE TEXT for learning the tin whistle! One 2-star reviewer stated: "It also jumps from learning very easy note exercises to playing full tunes with no visual helps on fingering. I would prefer a building set of exercises with some simple tunes that strengthen the note learning. not there in the lessons." I'm sorry to disagree ... BUT ... YES ... YES it does. That's EXACTLY what this book does for you. It starts out teaching holding the instrument, note fingerings with tablature (graphic representations of the fingering of notes on the whistle) along with the music staff of the music notation. That's exactly what the book should do and does VERY well. NOTE: If you're not familiar with music notation ... namely time signatures 4/4, 2/4, 3/4 and the ever intimidating 6/8 you will need a musically inclined friend to teach you this or YouTube how to work out time signatures. That is ... how the beats in one measure of music work out.Summary: Learning the tin whistle ... buy this book! =)

Clarks classic tin whistle book.
This is a newer edition of a classic Tin whistlers tutorial and songbook. The larger format of the newer edition is nice. I've been a whistler for years, and still like this book. There are bits of history all through the book too, which I like. Can't go wrong with this one.

excellent teaching tool!
I had this said back in 1998. It came with a Clark tin whistle and the book was much smaller and it came with a cassette. Somehow I lost the book and cassette but still had the penny whistle. I was thrilled to see it again on Amazon and couldn't resist. I ordered it again and this time to my surprise the book was much larger than the older one. It came with the CD instead of the cassette big improvement. I tried the CD and had no problems repeating the lessons and song. There should be a repeat button on a CD player so pressing this button repeats the lessons as many times as you need. This book and CD set is by far the best one I've had.. this book does not come with a whistle. It is made for a d whistle. Well worth the price!

Great book for learning tin whistle
This wonderful book (with included CD) is a great way for a beginner, like me, to learn the tin whistle. Mr. Ochs starts by explaining the history of the whistle and the basics of musical notation for someone who has never read music or forgotten how. He then shows you the fingering for the first three notes (BAG) of the whistle in the key of D. You next play exercises and simple tunes to develop your playing and your ability to read music. I've moved on to the next three notes (FED) and I'm playing more complex tunes. If only I had had Mr. Ochs as a music teacher many years ago! For the small price of this book and a tin whistle, you can have hours of fun.

Great instrucition book for the tin whistle
Book is easy step-by-step with incremental progress. Has good instruction on fingering and quality of sound. I did order a used one and made sure it included the CD, but I have not even used the CD yet.

Love this tin whistle book
This is not the easiest thing to master "immediately" but if you are willing to put in some practice time, the tin whistle and the Clarke Tin Whistle Deluxe Edition book with the CD is well worth the purchase. With the actual lesson you are on your own with the learning notes, etc. the cd introduces you to the music, but know your lessons first. I am having so,much fun with it. I also found not getting too far ahead is wise. I stayed in one place til I had felt completely comfortable with what the lesson was. You need to,practice and persevere but so worth the effort.

Very helpful
I can already read music but this book covers the basics for getting started if you need that. The progression of the lessons works well and everything is easy to follow. The CD is well done and helpful. If you stick with it, it will take you well beyond the beginner level. Have fun, take your time and practice a little every day if you can. This is a great book.

Excellent book talks through reading sheet music really well
Not what I was expecting initially but not disappointed. When I first opened the book I felt so daunted and bit disappointed as it was sheet music I hadn't a clue how to read music and had been using letter notes previous to this. But after working through the clearly laid out lessons in the book I soon got on to the gang of reading the music. Thanks to Clarke I have now learned a new skill which I had been putting off for years. The book in its self gives a wide range of music and I was impressed with it I didn't get the accompanying disc that goes with it but it didn't seem to hamper me to much as you can find most of the tunes on you tube

An awesome book!
Really great book. It explains properly how to play flute. It is easy to start even if you have absolutely no idea how to play.Highly recommend this book. But be aware that you can use it only with a thin whistle. In other words it is not suitable for recorder or a flute with 7-8 .. holes.

The Clarke Tin Whistle book by Bill Ochs
Combined with its CD, this is an outstanding tutorial for anyone like me who has just started playing the Tin Whistle. And by the way, having tried various whistles, my favourite is the Clarke Celtic D for mellow sound and the Oak D if I want a more strident sound. I also take this opportunity to pay tribute to 1 to 1 Music who supplied this book, a consistently excellent seller on Amazon.

libro interessante
arrivato in tempo assieme al Tin Whistle. E' interessante, ma richiede una buona conoscenza della lingua inglese. Adatto per imparare a suonare uno strumento e l'inglese
