Then what good are these, only useful if you can fill at station then carry for emergency.

Q: Are these able to be laid down with out leaking?

Yes, fully sealed (rubber washer (It IS a fuel bottle you know!!!)) Also, if you have one of the top end types of camping stove, most of them use the bottle laying down, that would be a bad time for it to leak! lol
