Light on practical information, but would be appropriate for managers
Really, really disappointed with this book. I was hoping that it could give a few solid examples of how to get started with simple, practical web services. By that I mean a web service with a database and a restful api. Instead, the REST chapter is 11 pages long with no code examples. Of the 11 pages, two pages were taken up with JSON listings. These seem more like filler than actually necessary.Maybe I would have been happier if the author had taken a sample datasource (like twitter) and showed how to build up a similar API via a web service.

Great introduction to web services
It would have been nice to see a more fully fleshed out example of both a server and a client included. I was left feeling like there was a step missing, but maybe as I start implementing my first API it will make more sense. The description of RESTful services seems a bit at odds with other reading I have done. Those issues aside, I thought it was an easy read and a great introduction to the topic. While it may not have answered all my questions, it certainly provided enough information that I know what to look into in more depth to find the answers I seek.

Quick
and to the point. I enjoyed how the book was laid out and the examples that were given. It isn't information that isn't already out there, but to have a concise and well written book is worth the money. The author did a good job with the content and showed various ways to tackle services.

Excellent Book
Rich with contents with only 104 pages. Curl command line examples give me another level of understanding PHP CURL package. Several debug and documentation tools mentioned in the book also help me programming faster and better.

Great book. Very educational. I finally understood what is an API and what are headers, requests, etc.. I knew about those before, but was confused. This book helped me figure it out :D

Great book!
This is actually a really good book on PHP web services, written in a very clear style. I've found it exceptionally useful and it now lives on my desk (I am writing a web service API in PHP for work at the moment).I like the fact it doesn't treat you like an idiot. My only reservation would be that the book felt a bit short, but the author does write in a very concise way that many technical authors don't, so there's not loads of padding and repeated stuff.Anyway, I'll be looking out for more books by Lorna Jane Mitchell in the future.

I kind of expected it to include Restful services, ...
I kind of expected it to include Restful services, but it only includes Soap. I am not into Soap anymore, probably just my thing.

Little book about big Web APIs
This is obviously only introduction to Web APIs written to point reader in the right direction in terms of tools used to work with APIs and brief description of them. Useful for beginners like me.
