Belt to last
I have gone through a lot of belts over the years, usually extremely disappointed - sometimes I find a belt which lasts me close to a year and that is rare. For many years I did only leather belts, but no matter the quality sooner or later the hole would wear out and I'd be forced to replace it. I tried canvas/military belts when I started working at a job that allowed me to wear jeans - they tended to wear down and the buckle couldn't grip after awhile - I went through three of these in a little over a year - they were cheap to replace and I thought I'd keep doing military belts. Then I found SlideBelts, I thought it was a great idea and bought one, turns out it really is. Have been wearing it daily for months now and honestly the ease it provides, the extremely quick adjustments are useful and the quality of the riveted plastic is great - I expect it to last quite awhile. Since the leather itself is not being stressed the belt itself keeps in perfect condition, and the belt buckle is very solid and easy to keep shinning. I expect to buy more belts in the future, but not because I have to keep replacing my primary belt, but to add new options to my collection, and I plan to only purchase SlideBelts from now on. Cons: The belt buckle itself connects to the belt by stabbing into the belt. This works well enough, it has only ever come undone once and I think I caused it. The only point here is that the belt itself isn't the same width of the belt buckle, just my OCD here, not that anyone would ever notice looking at it, but I'd like it to be the same size so it fits more elegantly. UPDATE DEC 2013: I have now had this belt for a year and have worn it for more than 330 days out of this year. I've used it to carry gun holsters, strap on a small first aid kit when I am going outside and have used it for everything from hiking to wearing it to as a dress belt with a suit. After so much use the belt is still firm still looks new. It's hard to tell when you look at the leather that it's been used. I've never used any leather protector on it, but the belt has not begun to fade or crack, the leather has simply become more flexible but is vertically still firm enough to hold anything I attach to it. I've also fixed my problem with the belt buckle falling off by drilling an extremely small screw hole into the belt buckle and I now simply keep a tiny screw in the buckle to lock in the belt. I've never had to remove the belt from the buckle, but if I had to, I could simply unscrew it. If anyone else intends to do this, do so carefully, and I do not recommend the use of a hand drill.

Customer Service Saves the Day
I bought this belt because it had such high ratings and indeed it is a good looking belt and the finite adjustments it allows make for one of the best fits I have ever gotten from a belt. My problem is that it has broken on me twice while I was wearing it creating rather uncomfortable situations. I am not sure if it is the way I wear my pants or I just have a poor quality leather but where the teeth grab the leather it just rips the entire end of the belt out. After the first time I thought it was just a fluke and cut it down but then less than a week later it happened again. It is a shame I will miss the fit it offered but having your belt break when you are wearing it over and over can create some less than desirable situations. UPDATE I received a personal message from the CEO of the company going out of his way to make my experience right. I will update more when I get the replacement and test it out but as far as customer service goes these guys are doing something right. I really hope the replacement is solid and works for me so I can update the review and keep using their product because outside of the breaking issue I had the thing is really cool and I will have no problem recommending it to others and giving these as gifts. UPDATE 2 Updating again. These guys really stepped up to the plate for me. They rushed me their upgraded product with their premium leather. I have not had it long yet but I can tell how much sturdier it is. If you are a person who puts extra stress on a belt by the way they wear it (ie. stretched out holes on traditional belts) I would recommend going to their website and getting the premium leather which is much more durable. Their customer service is awesome. I wrote the first review expecting nothing but these guys treated me great even thanking me for helping them improve the product, personal emails from the CEO, and a personal message on the replacement part they sent me in addition to other over the top compensation. The product itself is very cool and I have high hopes for the replacement they sent me, but I am taking the review to a 5 just because of the level of customer service I received. I was truly blown away.

Great belt: note on sizing
First, as other reviewers here, I am 100% pleased and satisfied with this belt. It is high quality, looks great, works great, plus very nicely packed by the seller, complete with a little "thank you" note upon opening! Now, a note on sizing. I had somewhat pessimistically ordered too large a size. I was on the verge of returning the belt for an exchange, when it dawned on me, due to the way this belt is constructed, it was easy to cut off a few inches of leather and make it the right size. The key to this is: the buckle hardware is independent of the belt, in fact, for the first use, you're expected to attach it yourself, very easy, with a hinged plate with sharp teeth that bite into and secure the leather. That edge of the leather is then hidden inside the buckle hardware, so doesn't need a nice, finished edge. I just carefully cut off a few inches of leather, being sure to keep a nice straight edge, reattached the buckle hardware, and voila! perfect sized belt. I doubt if the manufacturer recommends this... and it will surely void your return privileges [November 2012: please see comment] if you make a mess of it. But, if you're willing to trust your handiwork and find you ordered too large a size, this is an option. It worked well for me. Update: August 2014 The current Amazon listing for this belt now makes it clear that it is intended for self-sizing. In the original Amazon page, it wasn't so stated. Also, as a side note, the belt is still looking and working great after 2+ years, in particular no problems at all with the ratchet mechanism, so very pleased with the longevity at this point.

Fantastic Belt for Men
I'm a big guy (45" waist). In the past, I have bought all of my belts from brick and mortar stores like Wal-Mart or Stage, generally for around $15 a pop. And I am ashamed to say, they have each lasted me about a year before completely falling apart from supporting my large size. Every single one. I've had enough. It was time to invest in a better quality belt. So, I took to Amazon for reviews and quickly found this belt. The only thing that made me hesitate in pulling the trigger was how thin the strap is for this belt. I need a durable belt strap that can support my big ole waist. Since 1.) the quality of this belt strap is superior to the cheap/imitation leather of my previous belts, and 2.) This belt utilizes a well designed locking clasp mechanism as opposed to the "pin-in-hole" design I'm used to, I decided to give this belt a chance. I just got it, but in the 3 days that I've used it, it's worked well. Only time will tell how it holds up. Judging from the life spans of my previous belts, the 6-month warranty included with this belt probably won't matter to me, but it's still nice to have. A brief "first impressions" summary: I absolutely LOVE the modular design (the buckle and the strap can be separated from each other freely for modification). The belt is designed so that you can cut down one end of the strap to the exact size you want, and it doesn't affect the quality or appearance of the belt. In fact, the company that makes the belt fully supports and ENCOURAGES you to cut the strap down to fit your personal size, as the belt was designed this way. They even claim that they will replace your strap completely for free if you accidentally cut it down too much. Assuming they keep their word, this is UNPARALLELED customer support. I mean, wow. What other belt company in existence has that kind of support?? Finally, I love the look and quality of both the strap and the buckle. They are sleek, and the buckle is gorgeous (In a manly, "wow, this looks awesome!" sort of way).

big and tall!
Great idea. Nice belt. If you're a big guy with pressure on your belt you're going to strip the belt out every month or so with regular use. The buckle fastens to the belt portion with lock teeth that'll pull out and ruin the small portion of the end of the belt where they bight into. You can trim back a little bit of the belt to refasten the teeth, but eventually the belt get to short to wear. If this were real leather all of the way through it wouldn't be an issue.

Awesome design, so-so strap.
For years I have been a chronic sufferer of severe pant sag, electing to use cloth loop belts that would slip and drop. I would have to rearrange and tighten my belt a ridiculous amount of times per day. I finally decided that I needed to seek help. I purchased a few Columbia-brand web belts that solved the problem for my casual pants, but they are hardly nice enough to wear in a more formal setting. I wanted a similar, leather equivalent. Erik Blaire seems to be the only company offering such a belt, because I cannot find anything else like this ratchet-style belt. In short, based on the reviews, I expected a good quality belt and as soon as I took it out of the box I was happy. It didn't really "click" until I strapped the belt on. The belt slides into the buckle and makes a clean ratcheting sound. Your pants are now locked into place. The belt releases with the pull of a release mechanism. The quality of the leather is acceptable. As far as sizing goes. I am a pretty consistent size 32 waist. I ordered the medium size (36-38") and it is really one size too large for me. I should have ordered the small size (34-36"). The medium size does fit, but I am on the last couple of notches on the slider. I think I am going to order another couple of small belts and keep these for later in life when I may need a little bigger belt... ****UPDATE***** I finally got a bit fed up having my belt be just a bit too big. I proceeded to purchase a small sized strap directly from the company website. After ordering, I realized that I somehow accidentally ordered the XSmall size and sent them an email asking for them to change my order. I explained that I had purchased a belt on Amazon that was a size too large and that was why I was ordering the strap. I was promptly responded to and told that these belts are made to be cut. They placed my order on hold for me while I cut the strap. With a sharp pair of scissors, I simply cut the belt down 2 inches. No fraying, its just as good as if it were cut from the company itself. My belt now fits me perfectly. I suggest cutting off a little at a time until you are happy, because once u cut it too short its stuck like that. Knowing this, I would not be scared to order a belt a size too big. They are REALLY EASY TO CUT DOWN TO SIZE!!! ****UPDATE #2**** I decided to take one star off of my rating of these belts because after repeated use during the last few months the belt is cracking. Based on the price, maybe this is to be expected. I am still wearing the belt and its still great, but it is a little upsetting to see it cracking so soon. I hope that the company will take note of this. I LOVE the design of these belts and would be willing to pay double, or even triple the price for a nicer leather strap.

Best Belt I've Ever Owned
I had never bought a ratcheting belt before deciding to try this one. Having read reviews regarding SlideBelts' design, I decided to give it a shot. After opening the belt's package, I found the instructions to be very easy and clear as far as sizing the belt and using it. Upon using the belt for the first time, I realized that a lot of the problems I had encountered with traditional belts had been eliminated by the ratcheting design. Because the ratchet adjustments are very close together (quarter inch) a more precise fit can be achieved. Because of the difference in material, cut, etc. all of my pants just seem to have a slight difference in feel of fit. I always found that I was either tightening my belt too much or too little. The closer adjustments have eliminated this problem. The belt is extremely easy to tighten or loosen for the perfect fit. I know I'm not the only one who has experienced the pre-meal fit vs the after-meal fit. No problem with this belt because adjustments can be made easily and discreetly on the run. I was so impressed with this belt that I went ahead and bought another. Now I have one with a gun metal buckle and one with silver. They aren't the fanciest or most stylish belts but their functionality by far makes them the best belts I've ever owned. I highly recommend this belt and hope that if you try it you come to the same conclusion that I have.

Game changer!
Great idea by the creator. I like how it's so easily adjustable.
