UPDATED REVIEW: Good but may not be great product
Update 9/8/15: I originally purchased these in Feb 2014 and reviewed soon afterwards. I still believe these are the best headphones that I've purchased over the years. Matter fact I was just looking in my desk and found several old pairs that sucked. Too bad because I probably have $500 worth of crappy headphones sitting in my desk.I'm posting this UPDATE because the left earpiece stopped producing sound. It doesn't appear that anything is damaged or loose. Every once in awhile it gives me a few notes of sound but I can't reproduce this by wiggling the cord or tapping on the earpiece - must be a short inside which is what frequently happens to other earbuds BUT at least this one lasted 1 1/2 years before going bad.CHARGING: I've read several people complain about how unfriendly the charging process is. I rarely have the earbuds tell me the they are low on batter - yes, they will tell you when this happens which is a great feature. When it does happen it's my own fault because I didn't plug them in. I use these at the gym and while out running or walking on the beach. I always keep them in my car with the case/charger. I have the case/charger always plugged into the USB port in my armrest and always have the earbuds plugged into them when not using. When I return to my car from a workout I plug them in and unplug the next time that I use them - pretty darn simple. For those that use them at their desk, then you could do the same thing by having the case/charger always plugged into your computer and when you aren't using the earbuds always have them plugged into the charger.I don't understand why so many people have an issue with the charging process.SOUND: Regarding the sound - I think the sound is fine and actually better than most of the others that I've purchased. Of course they don't sound as good as good quality over the ear headphones but nor should they as they are earbuds. They have decent base with plenty of sound volume as well. I will say they wouldn't work great on an airplane but the ONLY headphones that work good on a plane is noise canceling headphones.Original Review: I hate to admit how much I've spent on earbuds for working/exercise over the years. I've purchase several brands most upwards of $100. A few key problems with of other buds: one side of the buds stops working after only a few months (probably due to moisture/sweat), they continuing fall out of my ears especially during running and similar movement activities, the wires break near the plug that goes into my iPhone. The last of these problems is solved with the blue tooth.Pros:- Bluetooth works great and I like that it communicates to you when it's on, connected and off- Sound is excellent especially when you wear the large silicon pieces - as it traps the sound in your ears- Love the battery pack/case as I can charge the buds in my car without having to bring them into the house to connect to my computer, an outlet etc (at least until the batter pack runs out)Cons: (some of these are potential cons as I'm only 1 month into using them)- They are fairly large compared to other buds (undecided if this is an issue or not yet)- The battery doesn't last nearly as long as advertised. I'm nearly certain that I'm getting just under 10 hours of battery life (and I make sure they are powered down after each use)- The right bud has a tendency to fall out of my ear but not nearly as often as other buds. I think this is due to slight increase in weight on the right side which has the long box in the cord that houses the buttons.Overall I'm very happy with these and would definitely recommend others to try them. My only concern is they may stop working due to the moisture/sweat issue.

Ok, but Made Mediocre by the Competition
Here's the thing about these headphones: they could be pretty great, but there are enough caveats to make them simply OK.I'm directly comparing them to the Sony MDR-AS600BT competition, which is usually around the same price, depending on sales. I use them mainly while commuting on the train and walking through the city every day (~50 minutes at a time,, twice a day), listening to music, watching netflix on my phone, and sometimes playing a game and talking.First, the mic quality is terrible (on both sets of headphones), but that's usually the case on these kinds of headsets, However, plantronics makes a lot of REALLY great bluetooth headsets for cell phones with GREAT mics, so I was disappointed.Second, audio quality is a mixed bag. For Netflix it is really pretty good, but when you switch to music, the complete lack of bass, even in non-bass-heavy music, becomes apparent. The audio is clear, and mids and highs are unmuddied, but generally the sound lacks any punch. The Sony set wins here hands down. The Backbeats come with a cool recharging case. Which is cool, but it's because they need it. Battery life is mediocre, as a trade-off for the smaller size. I can usually get around 3 commutes (say, 3 hours) before the little voice in the headphones tells me the batteries are low. The Sony set can get 6-8 commutes off a charge. They are a little larger (not a lot), and I think the extra space for battery makes all the difference. Unfortunately, the plantronics cannot be used while plugged into the charger case (i.e., one-sided in one ear while charging). So, when you're dead, you're dead. Both sets are comfortable, but the plantronics anchoring system is clearly inferior to the Sony's. They often get too loose to properly keep the sound in (leading to an exacerbation of the lack of bass), and running is really a no-go. The flat cable is nice, but stiff, and as a result can pull on the headphones. This is made worse by the in-line controls, which give a purchase for your collar, scarf, jacket etc to yank on the cable and the earbuds. The Sony's use a rounded, thin cable that is much more flexible and this is less often an issue. The Sony's are also perfectly stable while running or biking, unlike the Plantronics. As far as features go, the plantronics have in-line controls and a mic, plus the battery charging case, and that's about it. The Son'y's, however, have NFC, which makes powering the headset on and pairing it with your phone a VERY simple matter of touching your phone to your ear. The Plantronics set also has an Android app (free, but kind of hard to find, oddly, and under a different name than in the headset's documentation), but all it really does is show battery life of the headset. The Sony's also claim to be better water resistant, but both held up in a decent rain. The bottom line is that the Plantronics, while a decent set and smaller than the Sony's, have just too many little, annoying flaws to be competitive with the Sony MDR-AS600BT set which is usually similarly priced or only slightly more expensive ($10-$20). Get the Sony and hope Plantronics gets it better in version 2.
