DSLRDashboard and a tip to be able to keep your 3G/4G active during use!
I bought this to connect qDSLRDashboard to a canon camera (7DmkII in my case) to allow clients to see their pictures as they're taken. For the price, it's absolutely great. Having said that, however, if I were going to run this in a "real" studio environment, I'd probably fork over the $$$ for an actual CamRanger because of the more professional look and feel to the software. Thankfully, this setup will more than serve my purpose for 1/10 the price. To do it yourself, just follow the instructions at qDSLRDashboard or, alternately, DSLRController if you're an android user. Be careful - each app has its own firmware and they are not compatible with each other. I chose DSLRDashboard because of the iOS, Android, Mac and PC apps. It gives me a lot of flexibility. Btw, the PC and Mac apps are free. The iOS and Android are about $10. Seriously, folks, if you get this working and use it (even on the PC or a Mac), buy one of the mobile apps just to support the developer. He's obviously earned it with the effort that has gone into this! It took a bit of tinkering and trial and error, but once working, it works very well. Here are a few hints to help the process... 1) once you've flashed the new firmware and connected your pc to the TP-Link wifi, click the NETWORK button to connect in DSLRDashboard. I kept clicking the canon button to connect which didn't work. Click network and it should connect. 2) if you are using the mobile app and make any changes to the TP Link router for any reason (settings, etc), you should probably kill the app and restart it to avoid errors and the such. 3) I read a number of complaints about not being able to attach the TP to your hot shoe. I went down to Ace hardware and bought a 1/4-20 receiver, drilled a 3/8" hole in the TP bottom plate (it comes off easily to reveal the battery), and pushed the receiver through the hole. Just for overkill, I also cut off the edges of the receiver to fit inside the battery panel grooves so that it won't rotate when tightening and loosening. Now, I have a 1/4-20 receiver sticking out the bottom that I can use for a hot shoe ball joint adapter. See pics (I left a second receiver in the pic to show the whole piece)... 4) my biggest issue was having to reconnect my phone to wifi (and therefore disconnect from the TP) to post or send a photo (or even check email for that matter). As it turns out, you can get an iPhone to keep its cell connection active while connected to wifi by giving the wifi connection a static IP address. It's easy... A. Settings | Wi-Fi B. Click the info link next to the TP router name - you need to have already connected to it before C. Under IP address, click the "Static" button D. Give the connection a static address (I used 192.168.1.115 because that had been assigned to my phone by dhcp earlier) E. Give the connection a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 F. When you connect the iPhone to the TP, you'll see that it has no internet on the connection. You'll maintain your 3G/4G connection as well as the wifi connection to the TP. Setup Dropbox photo upload (or Amazon, iCloud, whatever) and every pic you take gets transferred. Just be careful of your data plan. Hope the extra info helped. I'll come back and edit if I come across any other tips.

Awesome device for mobile needs!
I was looking for a way to have mobile Internet access that could accommodate myself and my three boys. My boys are getting older and with that comes all of today's gadgets that need an Internet ap. I wasn't about to get tablets each with their own data plans cause frankly they are too little and irresponsible. And with today's society afternoons are filled with after school activities and other academic obligations that I have to keep my self mobile and less time at home. So my delima......doing homework and my job without being home having Internet access when I am. I currently have Att with mobile hotspot but i have found in my trials that it becomes unreliable and can't support many devices. Therefore i came across the tp link mr3040. It's a mobile hotspot and router with a rechargeable battery for complete mobility. For my purpose I use a T-Mobile jet 2.0. I went with t-mobile cause my plans includes 3gb of lte data then throttles down to 2g for unlimited. So I never worry about overages. The tp link 3g/4G router is easy to set up. It's Web interface is like most routers and has the usual settings. The difference? Well the tp link has the ability to act like a normal router which needs a Wan connection for Internet. It can also act like a ap bridge for a wired to wireless connection. In addition to acting like a 4g/3g router with a compatible USB dongle. All with a flick of a switch on the device. The tp link router can either be connected wireless or wired by ethernet. I configured my tp link with my t-mobile USB dongle connected to a power inverter that is used in my car. So in essence I made my car into a mobile hotspot. The tp link wasn't really meant for this configuration of being in a car therefore the wireless radio doesn't have enough range so I used the ethernet port and connected it to a netgear wireless router to boost the range. Now I have enough coverage to sit outside near by my vehicle and have Internet access for my self an my boys. It has made my life so much easier cause everything you need for work or school is on the web. And on road trips it's so much fun for my boys. And when I need to be far from my car I unplug the tp link and take it with me.

Bought this to flash for DSLRCONTROLLER and it works very well. It seems that this model is no longer widely available but seems to be the only one suitable for this. It actually arrived with an US USB charger plug and US - UK adapter (I assume this model isn't now available in the UK) which isn't very compact but it works. Not sure if this is dangerous as another review claims. Actually I use a UK USB charger or wall socket and put the US one aside.

Absolutely loved this product. I brought this for doing my office work on the move as my laptop don't support USB connections and I needed a way to get wifi on the move. Wifi hotspot on my phone was an option, but phone heating up, battery usage made me choose this. I had a mobile wifi (mifi router) before but and data usage while abroad was a pain. This one supports 4g and I can interchange the datacard. I have used Airtel 4g, Reliance Net connect in India and other connections elsewhere, it works perfectly. Some connections are plug n play but for some, I had to manually enter a few details-APN, dial in number etc. Wifi range is around 2-3 rooms (20m with walls) . Battery lasts 4-5 hrs on continuous usage, (but it is fairly new, so cant say how it will be in long term). Can be used as power bank as well. Apart from using it as 3g router, I have also used it with Broadband modem. I have used it to connect to my TV as a bridge. As a wifi repeater. It worked well all the time with very easy setups. Amazon lists this product twice with price diff of 200INR, not clear why but I think only the higher priced one supports 4g.

Excellent product, very robust and quite easy to configure. Purchasing a second one as the repeater function of it in such a portable footprint is incredibly handy.

Je l'ai transformé en module wifi pour mon canon 7D. Ca fonctionne très bien. Il me manque juste une application Android pour Magic Lantern, mais les fonctions originelles de l'appareil sont atteignable.
