In our hearing care practice we typically use very expensive fiber optic video otoscopes. We have tried several wireless variants but they always seem to have major drawbacks, such as low resolution, cheap construction, or complicated setup and wireless transmission apparatus. They typcially 3-5X what this firefly cost us. I was quite skeptical about how well this device would work, but I am quite impressed. The resolution on screen is great. The setup could not have been any simpler, and the windows drivers were very standardized which made it fully compatible with our patient management and database software. Gone are the days of analog to digital video capture cables and big bulky powered lighting. My only criticism is very minor, and that is that I wish it could use my normal specula. The ones that are included are not standardized or even compatible with other major brands of medical grade otoscopes. Like I said, very minor issue.

It stops working properly after about two months. The wand and the dongle stop pairing for no reason.

One of the coolest features about this microscope is how easy it is to take photos with it. Several years ago I had a dentist leave a broken drill bit in my tooth. I later had the tooth pulled and kept it. When we got the microscope, I used it to get a really good look at the tooth. It still makes me mad that the dentist did this to me without telling me. I'm an acupuncturist. Wanted to look for a dignostic device for rhinitis. When I was in Korea, I have usually used a nasal endoscope for MD - I was actually a MD in Korea - but in US cannot use it anymore. In addition its price was over $5,000 for each. But this Firefly DE550 is perfect substitute for nasal endoscope. It's easy to use and the weight is way light that expected. Especially I love this device for the following up function. I'm able to show the before and after snap shot to my patient. It's very important function. The only shortcoming is the resolution. Resolution of live video is pretty good. But snap shot resolution is less than expected. I think it's cause from transferring video data from analog to digital. Anyway I think it's the best choice for now.

Had to return. It was not working for me, as I could not make it functional. Might try it again.

I use this very frequently and it is a great piece of equipment. The price is great too.

I bought this as a new condition made in US , but install disck has much scratched, The dial decal isn't correct position.I could install from this disk. Performance is not bad. If you buy this item, I recommend to make up your mind you may get secondhand and defective product.

It's a neat concept but I couldn't get it to focus easily. And, because it takes a lot of time to focus it, it did not work at all for my squirmy 6 month old. Baby just wouldn't sit still long enough. Maybe it would work ok for adults but not for kids!

I deeply regret buying this product, but unfortunately, I missed the return period a long time ago. The images it captures are clear but EXTREMELY limited and narrow due to the poor design of both the tip and the otoscope itself. I later learned that this is likely because Firefly wanted to avoid infringing on Welch Allyn's patent, and therefore had to design it like that...
